Hair, nails, massages, treatments.... what do these cost in Ireland?

"Whaaaaaat?"

"So much?"

"you coating my hair in gold leaf for that price?"

Many of you will probably have one of those reactions when you see the price of personal body treatments in Ireland.

Some of the reasons for the expense:

  • Cost of insurance for anything involving another human's body and the risks
  • Miniumum wage (at the very least) versus cost of well qualified and trained people
  • Costs of high street rentals
  • Costs of products imported will be taxed heavily as luxury items
  • high VAT rates for service industry businesses
  • fees to belong to registered bodies

Some Examples from people on our Facebook page:

HAIR:

Galway
Haircut and colour
Galway shopping mall
Cut €54
Colour €54
I’ll say this, they have their own app, it makes selecting your treatment and making a booking a breeze, no hidden costs unless you add on while there. They do try to up sell while you are in the chair.
They also do all kinds of beauty treatments. Also had my eyebrows done there before, €15 for wax/pluck and colour

Where you live in Ireland: Tullamore, County Offaly
Name of the treatment you have done: Balayage, cut and colour.
High street salon
Cost: €160

Cork: In our salon the price is dependant on the length and thickness of your hair, as we calculate on the amount of product used. Generally for roots around €65

Galway: Its very expensive. I'm blond by way of full head highlights every 2 months in SA, now in Ireland I did the balayage thing for 'minimal maintenance costs' (so basically coloured my roots dark to not show regrowth) it's cost me EUR110 twice so far in 3 months because the dark also doesn't stay in and eventually washes out... ????????????
Had I known this, I would've started with going back to natural colour in SA 6 months or so before moving.

Cork: Solid colour, cut and blow dry on shoulder length hair €70

Bray: I pay about €125 for a full head of highlights, cut and blow dry.

I was blonde before we moved over and decided to die my hair back to my natural colour because I knew starting over is a huge financial burden, so I wouldn’t have that expense added on to my husbands shoulders. I haven’t regretted my decision

I'm in Kilkenny, long hair, full head of highlights, cut, dry and toner is €130. (The 'fancier' hairdressers in Kilkenny charge about €150 for the same thing)

When I first arrived in Dublin, my hair was costing me €230 - €280 every 2 months, I did root lighten, colour, treatment, cut and style. Then we moved to the countryside and all this costs me €150 at the most, it all depends on your hair type and length. I have fine shoulder length hair

Cork: I cut my hair maybe once a year for €30-€50 at either a friend or mobile hairdresser. Colour my own when I can.

Cork:

I pay about €80 for highlights and a cut, my hair is shoulder length.
It can get pricey in the bigger shopping centers from.€120 and up.
Mobile hairdresser is around €60 but then you have to clean up too.

I pay €140 for full head highlights and 110 for half head, every 3 months, my hairdresser does super fine foils, so the regrowth doesn't look so bad. I went natural before coming to Ireland as I knew the cost was crazy, then when we were settled the blonde addiction hit and now I'm wondering if I shouldn't have just left the natural look ???? the decision us women need to make, right?

Athlone: I pay €77 for a cut, colour and blow wave

I'm in Co Galway and for a Color, cut wash and blow dry I pay €70, just a haircut, wash and blow dry is €30 and just a color, wash and blow dry is €50.
